What Is A Periodontist?

If you suffer from Periodontal disease then you will need to see a person who specializes in this particular field and that person is a Periodontist.

A Periodontist is an expert in gum disease and any other gum inflammation disease therefore they will need to three years extra training than a normal dentist.

Periodontists are also experts in dental implants and you are better off visiting one if you would rather have implants than permanent dentures.

The cost of dental implants is much greater than the cost of dentures but the benefits outweigh the price difference.

With dental implants there is no worrying about them falling out when you laugh or chew, and you do not need to worry about getting sore gums off them rubbing.

With dental implants you are guaranteed a permanent smile and a sore free mouth.

There are many different types of gum disease (periodontal disease), Gingivitis is where you gums become severely inflamed and red and can often bleed.  With regular brushing this type of disease can be reversed and cleared.

If you do not treat Gingivitis it will advance to Periodontitis which is extremely serious and can lead to tooth loss.

Gum disease is caused by many factors and like hormonal changes in girls and women for example pregnancy often causes gum disease,  smoking, diabetes and much more.  It is extremely important to look after your teeth.

If you suspect that you are suffering from gum disease then visit your dentist who will be able to refer you to a Periodontist.  Who will tell you how it should be treated.  If you catch it early enough then your teeth could be saved.

When you visit a Periodontist treatment will be decided on your very first visit and you will continue having regular appointments until your gum disease is finally cleared.

If you have regular dental problems like needing a filling etc then you can just visit your dentist Periodontist treatment however is solely for problems caused by gum disease.

As pregnancy can cause gum inflammation it is essential that you look after your teeth and gums that little bit more while you are pregnant.

Many people do not realize they are suffering from a gum disease until it is too late and they need to then have their teeth removed.  The first time you notice your gums bleed then you should consult your regular dentist.

The first symptoms of gum disease are red and swollen gums, offensive breath and sensitive teeth.  If you are suffering from any of these symptoms then you should contact a dentist immediately, you may not be suffering from a disease of the gums but it is better to be safe than sorry and a Periodontist can put your mind at rest.
